Jack Westland – Woodville District Cricket Club
Woodville Under 14 White bowler Jack Westland has been awarded the ‘Junior Player of the Round’ after his stunning bowling performance that almost won his side the game in their match against West Torrens.
Woodville Captain Luca Barnadi won the toss and elected to bat first with the Peckers falling in trouble early, thanks to the bowling from Thomas Nattrass (2/13) and Chandan Saddi (2/6) claiming early scalps. Alex Clarke (16) provided some resistance for his side, but it was short lived as the Peckers finished their 60 overs 9/96. Batting at 10, Westland was unbeaten for 13 runs which helped the Peckers get to a competitive score.
In reply, West Torrens got off to a flying start with Lachlan Hoy (15) and Nick Thornton (14) leading the way with the bat for the Eagles. Westland bowled 11 overs which included four maidens and stunning figures of 7/16 in a bowling spell that very nearly won the match for the Peckers. However, the Eagles held their nerve as they crept to a two wicket win, passing the score after 46 overs.
Westland will be automatically included in the Junior Team of the Year and will be invited to attend a function at Adelaide Oval at the end of the season acknowledging his outstanding performance over the season, along with other nominees.
